Obituary of Betty Brooks Johnson

Betty Brooks Johnson passed away early Saturday Morning, February 18, 2017, at age 87. She fought a long battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Betty was born in Mayville, NY on November 8, 1929. She spent most of her school years and young adult life in Silver Creek, NY. Betty was one of ten children of Peter and Virginia Brooks. She is predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Alfred, Richard, Robert and sister Ester. Surviving siblings are: Pat Slawson (Dick), Don Brooks (Dorothy), Gordon Brooks (Mary), Jim Brooks (Sally), and her sister Joyce Josephson (Dave). In October 1954 Betty married Allen Johnson (at times known by his father's name Percy) in Rochester, NY. They have two children: Charles Johnson of Honeoye Falls, NY and Susan Johnson of Saratoga Springs, NY. Susan's children Samuel (18) and Anna Cherubin (20) were the light of Betty's life. Samuel loved her fig filled cookies and Anna's fond memories include time in the garden and afternoons at the Strong Museum with her beloved Grandma Betty. Betty enjoyed cooking and travel but her favorite pastime was gardening. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held SATURDAY, March 4th at 11:00 AM at Lucey-VanVoorhis Funeral Home (now Miller Funeral and Cremation Services of Victor), 301 West Main Street, Victor, NY.
