Obituary of Bruce C. Hyatt

Bruce Charles Hyatt, 83, passed peacefully on the evening of 27 October 2017 under the compassionate and professional care of Serenity House Hospice in Victor.

Bruce was born in Plattsburgh on 24 November  1934 to Lester and Dorothy (DeMars Gifford) Hyatt. In 1942 he and his family moved to Ellenville, NY. He graduated from Ellenville High School in 1952. After graduating  from New York State Agricultural and Technical College at Alfred,  he served proudly in the United States Army in the US and Germany during the Korean conflict. After his service, he earned a BS in Business from Syracuse University in 1961.

Bruce retired after 30-year career with Xerox.  An avid philatelist since his childhood, he became a well-respected dealer in his retirement. His retirement also allowed him to pursue his life-long loves of travel, reading, films, dark chocolate, fine wine and his pets.  He particularly enjoyed reconnecting with his Ellenville friends through the Ellenville/Wawarsing Alumni Association (EWAA). Bruce will be long remembered for his quick wit, acute mind and life-long love of learning. His home is filled with the many honors he earned during his career at Xerox. He was a proud member of the American Legion, the EWAA and several regional and national philatelic organizations.

Bruce is mourned by his niece Leslie (Jonathan) Brooks Selage and great nephew Jonathan Selage, Jr. of Palm Bay, Florida who have adopted his beloved furbaby, Boots. He will be especially missed by his life-long friend and companion, Barbara Hall of Victor. He was predeceased by his parents; an infant brother, Francis Eugene Hyatt; and his sister, Barbara Hyatt Brooks.
